Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines – The New People’s Army has owned up to the burning of heavy equipment of construction companies in Quirino and Cagayan over the weekend.

In a statement sent to The STAR yesterday, Victor Servidores, spokesman for the Fortunato Camus Command, said they attacked the motorpool of Pulsar Construction Co. in Alcala on Sunday and Brostan  Construction and Development Corp. in Maddela on Saturday after its owners refused to pay “revolutionary tax.”

The rebels burned two backhoes, a compactor and an Elf Truck of Pulsar, which is owned by the cousin of Cagayan congressman Edgar Lara.

A backhoe of Brostan, which is owned by the family of Santiago City, Isabela Mayor Joseph Tan was also set on fire.

The companies are undertaking government projects.
